Australasia’s first ‘B100’ truck – designed to run on 100 percent biofuel – is now on the roads around Christchurch. The Volvo is running on GreenFuels® biodiesel, produced at Fulton Hogan’s Christchurch GreenFuels® facility. Driver Brendon Congalton says it’s been turning quite a few heads, thanks to some powerful graphics developed by Fulton Hogan’s signs division, Signs and Graphics. Despite driving what is effectively a ‘mobile billboard’ for sustainability, Brendon says it’s the “clean as a whistle” exhaust pipe that catches his eye most. Canterbury Regional Manager Stephen Lowe said the visibility of the vehicle around Canterbury will help raise awareness of the steps Fulton Hogan is taking with biofuel. But it’s equally an opportunity to work with companies like Volvo. “We’d like to understand as much about biofuels use as we’re learning about making and distributing GreenFuels®.”

The winning entry was by the drainage team, using old pipes to create ‘Fountain‘. Fountain comes complete with a water pump, causing water to cascade from one pipe to the next. It’s been so admired the plan is to auction it for charity. Other leading contenders included Kylee’s own entry ‘Dog‘, and ‘Bulldozer‘ by Signs Inspector Cheyenne Walsh. Appropriately enough, Bulldozer’s body is made from an old road sign. And the contents of Kylee’s Dog? A ring-binder providing the ears; a pineapple can its head; a coffee container its body; the feet are wheels from an old chair; the eyes are the pull chords from an expired fire extinguisher; the nose the cover off a car battery anode; the tail an old aerial and the necklace is from a Christmas cracker. With no need to exercise, feed, walk, wash or take it to the vet, Dog might catch on. The truckstop development forms part of our bulk fuel facility roll out, led by corporate procurement focusing on the environmental and operational benefits to the business. With the Fulton Hogan Board present, Chairman, Dean Hamilton, had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon on the new fuel facility comprising of two, 30,000 litre tanks holding B100 from Greenfuels and mineral diesel supplied by our bulk fuel preferred supplier Allied Petroleum. The facility offers refuelling from both sides, with three fuel pumps that can deliver the biodiesel blend. This marks a significant milestone for Fulton Hogan and Greenfuels, as this is the first biodiesel facility in the North Island. It enables the Auckland regional business, to further reduce its carbon emission focusing on the 2025 goal of reducing carbon emissions by 25%. GreenFuels specialises in providing New Zealand with biodiesel, a less-hazardous, environmentally friendly fuel that can directly replace conventional petroleum diesel needs. It’s made right here in New Zealand, offering a fuel alternative that can really make a difference. The biodiesel is made from 100% recycled vegetable oil, refined it in our Christchurch factory and then bulk shipped to Auckland in partnership with Allied Pretroleum. Representatives from Watercare Services Limited Enterprise Model were also present. Pictured with Dean Hamilton is Anna Mogridge, Agile Lead for Watercare Enterprise Model P1st Team. The Enterprise Model has a bold carbon reduction target of 40% relating to construction carbon across the $2.4BN programme over the next ten years with biodiesel playing a significant part in realising this target.

There is something about the beauty of a hardwood floor that makes any home look amazing. Hardwood floors also cut down on allergens and dust mites, which helps people with allergies and asthma. If you are thinking about hardwood floors, which kind of hardwood flooring should you choose? We have a guide for you. Types of Wood FlooringThere are two different types of wood flooring. Engineered hardwood is composed of several different layers of wood, each going in a different direction. The top of the wood plank is a solid wood veneer. Engineered hardwood comes in lots of different tree species. Solid hardwood is one solid piece of wood throughout the plank. It is more expensive, but it can last for decades. Styles of Wood FlooringYou may want to select strip hardwood flooring. Strip flooring comes in strips which are between 1 ½ inch and 2 ½ inches wide, and 5/16 up to ¾ thick. When you think of traditional wood flooring, this is what you are thinking of. Plank flooring has wider strips of wood that are between three and eight inches wide. People who like a rustic look or want to preserve a historic home look may choose this type of flooring. If you are into the antique or rustic look, you might also want to opt for hand-scraped wood flooring, which looks much older than it is, and is finished with urethane for perfect preservation and to guard against stains and spills. Wire brushed floors are also distressed, but not as much as the hand-scraped flooring. When you’re ready to buy new hardwood flooring, give Flooring.org a call at 800-689-9006! With the opening of WestConnex Stage 2, the M8, the operations and maintenance contract and incident response services on Sydney’s brand-new motorway tunnel officially began. The 9km twin tunnels connecting the M5 at Kingsgrove to a new interchange at St Peters add to the growing list of the WestConnex network now maintained and serviced by FHEO&M. FHEO&M is already overseeing the following sections of WestConnex opened over the past 3 years:
The latest section provides motorists with a 9km traffic-light free link between the Sydney suburbs of Kingsgrove and St Peters. It forms part of the New South Wales Government’s integrated transport solution designed to ease congestion and keep Sydney moving. The tunnel is equipped with cameras that are monitored 24/7 with 100% coverage with an Incident Response team on standby to assist motorists. Since the start of construction in 2016, FHEO&M has worked closely with WestConnex | Transurban, who are responsible for delivery and operations of this $4.3 billion legacy project. Involvement of the operations and maintenance provider during the design and construct phases of the project have ensured long-term maintenance requirements were taken into consideration. Since its incorporation in December 2015, FHEO&M has expanded into an organisation with over 100 employees and developed strong in-house capabilities in maintenance, asset management, incident response and traffic management. It was awarded the operations and maintenance contract in early 2020. The successful integration of the WestConnex M8 operational and maintenance responsibilities into the WestConnex network maintained under the contract further cement Fulton Hogan’s standing as one of Australia’s premier infrastructure maintenance and asset management providers. Working in partnership with a world leading tunnel operator, we are safely and effectively maintaining a crucial motorway network. Everyone, it seems, had an opinion on how to grill the perfect brontosaurus burger! These spirited discussions continue today. One fact is indisputable: there is nothing better than a well-cooked, delicious cut of meat and vegetables prepared on a top-quality grill. Some of the best grilling equipment comes from the Renaissance Cooking Systems (RCS) grills. The RCS grills are some of the best made grills in the world and they are not sold at big-box retailers. They are only available from highly respected distributors such as Acme Brick Tile & Stone. The trend toward staying home for dining and entertaining has introduced the grilling lifestyle to millions of novice and accomplished cookers. With all of these new “grill masters,” there are bound to be some misconceptions about the best way to guarantee a mouth-watering outdoor meal experience. Gas or Charcoal? Meat and vegetables cooked on a gas-powered or charcoal grill taste a little different; however, both are excellent in their own way. According to this grilling guide, charcoal gives a smokier taste, while gas leads to a more bacon-like taste. With charcoal, when the meat drippings meet the flame, they become vaporized, and a portion penetrates the food. But a propane gas grill has ceramic or metal slabs covering the flame. Any food drippings or spices hit this surface and do not touch the meat. An advantage of a gas grill is that it produces more steam than its charcoal counterpart, giving the meat more moisture. There are other important differences in the two grill types.
The RCS grills are all gas-powered and have a wide-range of state-of-the-grilling-art features. Tips for Choosing a Grill That Will Last Jeff Cunningham is the third generation of his family to lead RCS and his passion for grilling burns as hot as his products. He offered a few suggestions on choosing an outdoor grill. “First, think about how you want to use your outdoor kitchen,” he said. “Is it just for family use or will it be used for LOTS of entertainment? The primary use requirements will help decide what appliances you will need to incorporate. “There are so many brands and sizes of gas grills, side burners, door/drawers, refrigeration products and so forth to choose from. Remember, an outdoor kitchen is a project you only want to do once at this house, so do it right the first time so you do not have to do it over.” The company website notes that not all stainless steel is high quality. In some high humidity climates some grades of stainless steel will rust out in a short period of time, leaving the owner with a gaping hole in his or her new kitchen, and one that will usually only accommodate the same grill again. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the grill chosen will last and has a lifetime warranty from a reputable company that has been around a while to back it up! RCS has one of the industry’s most comprehensive warranty. All RCS Cutlass Pro Series grills, side burners, sinks, as well as all doors and drawers are warranted to be free from manufacturer defects for the lifetime of the original owner. All RCS Premier Series grills are warranted to be free from manufacturer defects for 15 years of the original owner. All RCS refrigeration products are warrantied to be free from manufacturer defects for five years to the original owner. Simple is Good “At RCS we believe in simple, easy to use outdoor cooking appliances,” Cunningham said. “We’ve designed our grills with common-sense BTU levels. BTU’s refer to the amount of heat a grill produces. Some manufacturers sell BTU’s like they are horsepower when in effect, they are just a larger hole in the orifice. The problem with grills that have too high of BTUs is that it is more difficult to operate the grill – the opposite of simple. Anyone can use an RCS grill and create beautiful meals without being a professional chef.” The company has also included features that can enhance the grilling experience. For example, some RCS grills have optional smoking boxes for more outdoor smoked taste. Plus, several models offer rear burners that when used in conjunction with a rotisserie can create beautiful “slow-rotiss” meats and veggies. Finally, if the grill master wants to sear meat quickly, there is an optional infra-red burner available that replaces one of the original burners and is easy to switch back and forth. Some of the Best Grills in the World Acme Brick offers the perfect complements to any outdoor cooking space with a wide range of all types of grills.
